Wix vs. Weebly

Wix vs. Weebly: in this post we’re going to take a look comparatively at the the key features of these two popular website builders. My aim is to help you decide which one is a better option for you.

So , le’s get started!

Themes and Design

Both Wix and Weebly offer great themes. I believe Wix themes look sleeker, but Weebly has made a lot of progress and they are catching up.

Wix offers a lot of industry specific themes. So if you have a restaurant, if you’re a freelancer, consultant or if you want to build a real estate site, you’re covered. Photographers and designers are not forgotten, as well. Check out the themes for yourself. They look awesome!

With the rise of mobile, it’s a must to make sure your site is mobile friendly. Wix offers a top notch mobile editor, ¬†while Weebly’s new themes are responsive. So, both deliver on this point.

Something to keep in mind here is that for Wix, once you’ve chosen a site theme or template, you can’t switch to another one with one click. This means that while you can still change your theme later on, the content is not automatically migrated. You’ll need to insert it manually into the new theme. If you have just a few pages, this is not a big deal. For bigger sites though, this is a downside.

Weebly allows you to switch to a different template with one click and your content is automatically migrated into the new theme. Sweet!

Features

Wix offers a ton of features. The guys are very innovative and add new ones on a monthly basis. So if you want to make sure you have access to the most up to date trends and features, Wix is for you.

Weebly on another hand tries to balance functionality and complexity. They offer all the features you need to do the job, but not more than that. This allows them to deliver better on simplicity.

Both of them offer you the option to add additional functionalities via apps. Just visit their app market and choose the one you need.

Ease of Use

Weebly is the king when it comes to ease of use. They cherish minimalism and keep their interface simple and intuitive. Are you non-technical and  just want the easiest way to get your site live? Well, you could resonate very well with Weebly.

While Wix offers overall more features, it’s still easy to use. So don’t think Weebly has a huge advantage here. Wix is easy to use, too! It’s just that Weebly is the easiest to use.

Both Wix and Weebly are drag and drop website builders. You don’t need to know how to code in order to build your site. It’s totally doable to get your own site live within a few hours with both of them.

Support

In terms of support, both sites have you covered. No worries here!

Pricing

Pricing is not that different for these website builders. You can check out the plans they offer directly on their sites, but I strongly advise not to choose based on price, especially that their offer has quite a similar structure.

Both Weebly and Wix offer a free option, so it’s totally risk free for you to just sign up, test drive their features, see what interface you like the most and which one meets your needs better.

Once you decide which one you like the most, if you’re serious about your presence online, I recommend to upgrade to one of their premium plans.

This is because the free plans display advertising. This is a fair exchange if you consider that they offer you a service ‘for free’. However, it’s not very professional to have third party advertising inserted on your site. Please note that Wix displays advertising also for the lowest tier paid plan, so you would need to go at least with ‘Combo’ in order to get rid of the ads.

Moreover, when you subscribe to a paid plan, you get a free domain for the first year.

Conclusion: What Should You Choose, Wix or Weebly?

Both Wix and Weebly are excelent do it yourself website builders.

If you want supreme ease of use, go with Weebly.

If you want more feature, sleek designs and good ease of use, go with Wix.

In my opinion, Wix is the best overall website builder. However, it’s a matter of personal preference. Try one or both builders for yourself and choose the one you like best.
